Happy Days are Here Again for Web Startups. Not.

Sometimes, if you can get enough eyeballs to visit your site, you can support your web business with Google Adsense ads (you know, those relatively non-obstruvise text ads that run along the tops or sides of a website). Well, at least you may be able to pay for hosting services. To move beyond that, you'll need to achieve a pretty significant visitor threshold to attract real advertisers.

In this economy though, if you're trying to get funding based on an advertising revenue model, you may have to rethink your strategy to find new revenue streams. VC's just aren't supporting businesses whose sole income is expected to be generated from ads, as this 12/8/08 NY Times article points out.
