Whether you're an Internet newbie or want to use your website to promote, operate and grow your business, these sessions are for you. Part presentation, part creative exchange, part Q&A, we'll cover different topics each month, exploring tips and techniques for being successful on the Net. It's about 1 1/2 hours of lecture; the rest is for Q&A and discussion. You'll always leave with tools you can put into practice immediately. $25.

January 21, 2011 Build Your Website Fast and Easy

These days, every business needs a website (with few exceptions). Before you hire designers, coders or your nephew to build it for you, we'll show you how to get a site up quickly and inexpensively on your own using low-cost tools. Even if you don't want to do it all yourself, you'll have the rudimentary knowledge you need to understand who to hire and how to manage them.

You'll learn about:

• The different types of sites and the costs associated with building them
• The four main components: domain names, hosts, code and content
• Website builders with a comparison of the different options
• How to map out a site with the right features and functionality
• Maintaining your site without the need for much technical expertise

This workshop is for people who are planning on building a site for their business. If you already have a site, but don't understand the main components and are having difficulty managing or maintaining it, you may find it useful as well. If you're in the early stages of just planning your business, and don't have a business or marketing plan, you may want to take our marketing workshops first.
